New 1000say: “Holy Rain”

The most impressive aspect of 1000say’s “Holy Rain” is how the Tokyo band doesn’t rely on trendy tropes to create a song-long feeling of nostalgia. Don’t expect any Mr. Wizard Moogs or druggy lyrics. Instead, 1000say employ the tried-and-true strategy of sounding like other bands. “Holy Rain’s” strongest musical tool is the Cure-ish keyboard showers sprinkling over the track, a bright bit of reflection not inspired by pot and Howard the Duck. The boy-girl vocals also recall early era indie-pop, and when they coil up with the keyboards the results are extremely easy to get caught up in. The song can be found on the group’s new album Lightning Amplifier.
