New TOMC: “Bake The House”

ByPatrick St. Michel

Sometimes simply getting completely lost inside a song is all you really need. TOMC’s “Bake The House” ostensibly plays out like a dance track, with a shuffling beat guiding everything forward, but nobody would blame you if you missed it because of all the stuff stewing on top of it. Disoriented noises, dislocated human voices and samples of bubbles and appliance and, uh, elephants play out over the beat, creating a bit of floor-ready collage to lose yourself in. Listen above.

That’s Osaka group The Marble’s new album…in the hands of an adorable panda! “Bloody Marble” is one of those songs really defined by one amazing part. Everything surrounding the moment isn’t a trash heap, as The Marble first flirt with 90’s era indie touches (the intro) before veering towards emo territory and then combining the…

Kindan No Tasuketsu operate in many different forms — fuzzy rock, groovier dance cuts — but I’m personally a huge fan of when they go in the direction they chose for new song “Kiss,” which is a slower, electronic-glazed number that oozes melancholy (see “Crazy“). Their latest isn’t quite as full of outright longing, but…

  • Japanese Christmas Round-Up 2012: Miila, Her Ghost Friend,

    ByPatrick St. Michel
