Was going to do a round-up of stuff that came out while I was on vacation, but life got in the way! So let’s do one at a time.
Masayoshi Iimori exists on the aggressive extreme of Trekkie Trax…which is to say, he makes the sort of trap-inspired electronic pounders that make me feel ancient. He’s a pro at it, and his songs absolutely slay in a live setting, which I’ve seen time and time again. The two songs on Tap showcase his bass-rattling skills at their finest, without descending into pure cacophony. Key to their charm is the way they gleefully bounce along before the drop hits, especially on “Booze,” which never really plunges down but rather hops forward and mutates.
