THE DIM

THE DIM play garage rock covered with bloghouse signifiers – their songs revolve mostly around guitar and drums, but the four-piece pushes in dashes of synths worthy of Hipster Runoff. Not much info about this band exists and they only have three songs streaming over at their MySpace, but the trio of tunes are pretty swell. Sounds a little like the dearly missed Be Your Own Pet with more Hype Machine potential.

  • Digital Woods: Takanax’s “Forest”

Takanax is a Japanese producer floating around netlabel Sy4in Records, doing plenty of solid work on their own, too. “Forest” is the artist’s latest, and it is a surprisingly contemplative number, at least by dance-centric internet standards. It features synth-generated moans and 8-bit frosting, but never goes too cutesy (or maximalist), instead opting for a…

  • New Satellite Young: “Singing Dream”

Lyrical cleverness has always been the element of trio Satellite Young’s music separating them from similarly “retro new-wave” artists. Anyone can pen some overly dramatic lyrics and set it against synthesizer melodies before slapping some Blade Runner imagery over it. But Satellite Young ultimately focus on the now through a throwback lens, or at last…

  • Stuff We Missed 2012: Timothy Work
