When Did That Happen? Bang Bang Balloon Become Nuxx, Prep Debut Album

Well here’s a fun surprise…electro-dance Osaka-ites Bang Bang Balloon have dropped the Bang Bang Balloon moniker. They have been “reborn” as Nuxx, a nice enough name. The real big news, though, is this rechristening coincides with the release of their debut full-length, Sound Ache. They’ve got a little preview of the album running at the shiny new Nuxx MySpace page and whatever they want to be called, they still sound excellent and as exciting as they were when I first saw them last October. Considering how giddy the band’s first EP made me feel — coupled with the fact Flying Lotus dropped his latest album and has blown me away — Sound Ache has become my most anticipated release of 2010. It’s out May 19, and I guarantee this won’t be the last time you hear about it.

  • Anywhere Is OK: Moscow Club’s “Daisy Miller Pt. 1”

Moscow Club’s official blog is a hodgepodge of English, Russian and Japanese (the latter being the language of their actual home country), an appropriate mix given their preference for the sort of indie-pop that transcends cultural barriers and goes straight for the heart instead. New track “Daisy Miller Pt. 1” further backs up this universal…

  • Hope It Lasts: Dominika’s “Eternal Spring”

The other day we talked about Kidz Rec member Baroque and his pulverizing anti-matter dance music. On the opposite end of the label’s sound spectrum sits Dominika’s “Eternal Spring,” a sliver of a track leaning closer to ambient than dance save for the most delicate of beats. It’s not without precedent – “Eternal Spring” sounds…

  • JAM The MOD: “Since Tomorrow”

  • New Yunomi Featuring Rinahamu: “Fashion”

Yunomi’s colorful blasts of dance music rarely leave space for detail, but “Fashion” excels at the small stuff. It works well as a Technicolor rollercoaster ride too, with guest vocalist Rinahamu (from Yunomi-produced outfit CY8ER providing higher-pitched vocals) guiding the song from dramatic verses to ragin-out drops. But that’s also familiar — Yunomi has proven…
