Acid Mothers Temple, Boom Boom Satellites Among Japanese Bands To Play SXSW 2010

Geez, it feels like South By Southwest 2009 just happened. And already a flurry of bands have been announced for the 2010 incarnation of Austin’s biggest music event. A few Japanese bands will be heading out to Texas next March, including Osaka freak outs Acid Mothers Temple and rock outfit Boom Boom Satellites. Joining them will be Caucus, Geeks and Maruosa…who I hadn’t heard of before, but will now check out. Thanks to JPOP Lover for posting this information. • Live Must: Ningen OK

  • Neon Night Strut: D∀NGER D∀NGER’s D∀NGER D∀NGER EP

There’s always bands like this, probably in every country – an outfit (or individual) in love with the synth-tastic sounds of the 1980s, enamored by the sleekness but also the heartstring-tugging abilities of those bright-ass noises. Japan has no shortage of these groups – Nile Long (formerly The Brixton Academy), Orland, Give Me Wallets (now…

  • Wasabi Tapes Presents DJ Gaga Slime & MC Pure Photoshop Core’s Golden Slime Core

The artists on Wasabi Tapes go under a lot of names, but the label has developed a unifying sound that touches nearly all their releases, give or take a Nikkei. They wrangle chaos into something focused, using jarring samples and synthesizer notes smooshed together into something disorienting but fascinating (and, really, fun as hell). DJ…

  • New Luka Uemura: EP/3

Talk about bad timing – I wrote about electro-dude Luka Uemura on May 3, bookmarking his Bandcamp page and assuming he wouldn’t post any new stuff for a while. Two days later, he uploaded EP/3, an ambient-focused release. I’m just now noticing it, but it still deserves some attention. On the previously noted EP/2, Uemura…

  • New Chelmico: “Player”

Chelmico recently released their first full-length major label album Power, and it’s a solid shift towards bigger places for the duo. Most importantly, not much has changed now that they are on unBorde from recent EPs and a self-titled 2016 debut album. They still create upbeat genre-skipping exercises anchored in hip-hop, channeling Rip Slyme, Halcali…
