Despite the title and the lux cover art, producer Tameike’s Manhattan isn’t a totally smooth set of laid-back numbers. Though it certainly gets chill at times, such as on the downtempo “Twilight,” the bulk of the album is a jittery, always-in-motion collection of electronic songs featuring synthesizer ripples (“Marble Lemon”) and bell chimes grazing over skittery beats (“Garden Lunch”). At times it can drag a bit, mostly when the songs stop morphing and settle into grooves, but the bulk of Manhattan frequently stays engaging, and it makes for a good one to just sort of be sucked up in. Get it here, or listen to a few songs above.
