New Metome: “Sweeter Than Sweet”

Osaka’s Metome has always been good at making space work for him – as tightly controlled as his songs have been, they’ve always relied on timing to make them snap even harder, and sometimes a second long pause was all that was needed to make a sudden rush of electronics all the more powerful. “Sweeter Than Sweet” really makes the most of space…it uses lots of break to make the fluttery synths and hard bopping drums (plus gun-cocking sounds) smack all the harder. Metome has always been willing to stretch himself, but here’s an interesting new direction for him. Listen above.

But nope — the three song set jumps from sweetly sung robo ballads about love (the charming “We Are Not Cinderella,” which flashes a few instances…

Tokyo producer mus.hiba has mainly worked with digital singers over the last few years. For “Hitomi,” though, he’s working with flesh-and-blood singer Abigail Press, from Brooklyn for his forthcoming full-length debut on…

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mImejKvKn4M&hl=en_US&fs=1&] I’m pretty much in full agreement with Neaux when he labels Japanese rapper DELI’s song “Itsumademo” as “WTF.” Everything about this dude and song seems head scratching…Autotune, a video where symbolism comes via someone overfilling various cups, the fact this guy’s named freakin’ DELI. This should just be an e-mail attachment to a message…
