Another day, another electronic music comp combining familiar faces with new ones, so let’s just run through this quick, yeah?
The old: mus.hiba and his Vocaloid partner in art Sekka Yufu contribute “Hitori,” another slow-moving stunner in a song catalog that’s starting to overflow with great work. It’s one of his most glacial numbers yet, a series of whirring synths building up to a in-no-rush singing segment from Yufu’s digi voice before turning into…an even more minimal thump, just drum and a few electronic noises. It closes on one more seasick note. God, this guy is so good. Ryuuta Takaki is also back with a strong track, one teasing a similar iciness while also working in the distant…coos of a baby. The majority of the song, though, is just solid beat work that mutates into something approaching juke music in its second half.
The new: A lot! End’s Not Near’s “What Color” seems like a bit of a pointless ambient number until a beat kicks in and takes the song to an exciting new level. Hyperthink’s appropriately titled “Wonderfuck” jumps between banging and glitched-out sweating. Qeunoirs offers a solid, straight-ahead dance song. That’s only the start. Get the whole thing here.
