The Wedding Mistakes make “post-rock,” and we’ve already been over that it isn’t what you expect from that word. Listening to The Wedding Mistakes’ first album Virgin Road makes the term feel even stranger, because the duo seem post everything. The Wedding Mistakes are defiantly genreless, blending together so many disparate sounds together into a neck-snapping final product. Individual moments in the tracks on Virgin Road jump out – EDM freakouts, drum ‘n’ bass plunge, the chopped up vocals of post-dubstep – yet they all get blended together, the songs pinballing all over the place. Softer cuts, like the title track and “I Do’s,” are softer, yet most of the time The Wedding Mistakes are about friction. The thrilling “Dramatic Behavior” is sliced voices and twinkles blasting ahead like they are in a video game, while “So Hot” mimics contemporary trap music in its drum programming but balances out with soft singing. Even a seemingly laid-back song like “Her Mistakes” can burst open into a jungle-touched tune. Get it here, or listen below.
