It has been a rainy weekend in Tokyo, which means I have been inside hunched over a computer for most of Saturday. This compilation courtesy of beatmaker collective EN Tokyo has proven to be a great companion for a day like today – the Japanese producers present (plus guest Silent Jay from Australia) an album that bounces but is also surprisingly reflective, with samples rhymes and dialogue fading in and out of the songs, adding an odd bit of time control to the songs. This is a bit of a challenge record – each producer bought used records one day and created their song overnight using said source material. This challenge results in some good stuff. Listen below, or get it here.
