A Transparent Girl manages to navigate between two worlds. The duo float in squiggly orbit on “Like Reich’s Pulse,” shimmering synths constantly interrupted by glitchy vocals. Midway through, though, the song blooms into something new, a bouncy melody that transforms the same vocal skippings into something catchy. Despite this outro, the track boasts an air of experimental-ness which could lead one to believe Girl’s latest EP Quad features similar sketches. “Calendar” proves this theory wrong – minimal electro-shimmers give way for guitars, drums and actual vocals. It’s slightly strange around the corners, but “Calendar” is for the most part straightforward indie rock, an enjoyable stab at that. Listen here.
