Y T A M manages to set a very specific scene with “Torch Crystal,” or at least she’s managed to make a song that lends itself well to conjuring up landscapes. This song is a slow builder, opening with a faint, glassy beat. Her voice comes in next, singing quickly before the beat finishes up. And then distant bells start ringing, and some digital fuzz kicks up in the left channel…and soon it sounds like tape-recorded waves crashing into a beach. Maybe the “Torch” part is just spurring it, but before the digi-squeaks and droplets turn the song HD, this sounds like the soundtrack for a cave next to the sea. Listen below.
