ALT A NATIVE SYNDICATE

Good On The Dancefloor is an art collective based out of Tokyo consisting of four bands. The collective’s recently released a compilation album of music entitled ALT A NATIVE SYNDICATE. The music of the Good On The Dancefloor family jumps all around, from the dancey tunes of White Scooper and Nu clear classmate, to the garage rock of The New House, to the new-wave noise of AAPS. Expect posts about each of these bands (because they sound that good) in the near future, but for now listen to tracks from all these artists here.

Harunemuri doesn’t represent a new standard in Japanese pop music, but she does point towards a direction where a lot of things are starting to go. Last year’s Atom Heart Mother (really!!) offered a great introduction into what she’s all about, placing her rap-sing delivery in the spotlight against a mix of wonky beats and…

  • New Foodman: Oiss EP

There are a lot of disorienting moments on juke maker Foodman’s new collection, the Oiss EP. The one that has stuck with me the most so far, though, comes on “Yoru Piku Piku,” a skittery song that’s among the absolute creepiest things the Yokohama producer has ever put forth into the world. The beat moves…

  • Live Must: Ningen OK

  • New Satanicpornocultshop: Green Papaya EP

When you need a little burst of energy during a busy day, Osaka’s Satanicpornocultshop always comes through. The juke-leaning collective’s new Green Papaya EP zeroes in on percussion, with nearly every track here interlaying different beats over one another to create shuffling rhythm tracks. It runs from the sparse, skin-tingling wooden sounds of “Mouthwash” to…
