Producer and Fogpak contributor Hakushi Hasegawa gets extra bright on “Hadairo No Kawa,” his latest rainbow-colored wonder. Critical to its success, the song isn’t a dizzying display of ultra-bright synths and cutesy bell chimes — rather, Hasegawa himself sings over the music, bouncing through the uptempo portions and moving in step with the slower passages, a sort of plugged-in Shugo Tokumaru. And the music itself takes a whole lot of turns, at times approaching a chaotic noise that sounds like jazz rather than synth-pop…but always locking back together, to at least carry Hasegawa to the next sudden twist. Listen above.
