Faded Beats: Hiroyuki Tanaka’s “Hot Sea”

Fitting for the most sweltering time of the year, Hiroyuki Tanaka’s “Hot Sea” sounds like its melting. Part of that comes as a result of Tanaka’s approach to creating music — the creator isn’t worried about mastering, so the music has a raw feel to it, and “Hot Sea’s” main beat and rubbery bass are turned transparent thanks to some woozy synthesizer work sweating off beneath it all. It also features a few prominent guitar lines that, coupled with the straight-from-the-bedroom sound quality, brings to mind a dance-floor-minded version of American project Ducktails. Optimal for sitting inside a scorcher. Listen above.
