Indie-Pop Roundup: The Moments And It Happens Have New Songs

– Nagoya’s The Moments posted a new song a little bit ago, and if you dig guitar-lead ditties leaning towards sunny-afternoon indie pop, you’ll probably like “Shining Eyes.” This new one lacks the multi-voiced hookiness of previously released “Short Trip,” instead opting for a fragility that seems like a gust of wind could knock it over. Still, a catchy tune with a lurking sense of melancholy which we just love around these parts. Listen below.

Moving a little further to the west, Osaka’s It Happens also released a new dash of lo-fi rock with the song “I Wanna Be In Your Dream.” Clocking in at just under two minutes, “I Wanna Be In Your Dream” moves at a much faster clip than “Shining Eyes,” flirting with punk abandon through fast chords and a relentless drum-machine beat. The vocals get clouded out something fierce, less a major component and more of a highly-noticeable detail. Listen to it below.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oETuy1KsJMM&hl=en_US&fs=1&] It takes some set of balls to name your band after Buddy Holly’s backing group, so The Crickets score points for daring from the get-go. The five-piece sounds very little like Mr. Holly’s bros though. SparkPlugged and Neaux (side tangent: that pairings the J-music blog equivalent of Nash-To-Stoudemire, totally dope) correctly pegged the sound…

  • Stuff We Missed 2012: Timothy Work
