It’s “Things We Missed Week” On Make Believe Melodies!

We’ve reached the midpoint of June…geez, time keeps marching on doesn’t it…and basically the midway point of the year. At this juncture, Make Believe Melodies will spend the next week taking a look back at some of the Japanese music that managed to slip through the cracks for one reason or another. Expect a few record reviews and a few looks at bands that I never got around to writing about because of time/dips into laziness. I’ll try to keep up with any new music news as well, but also devote some time to slightly older material.

Any suggestions for things I should take a listen to? Leave a comment!

  • Yasutaka Nakata Remixes Passion Pit

I like Passion Pit’s Manners, but I understand why a lot of people would be turned off by their everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to music. These guys didn’t waste any of their label-allotted studio time, cramming their debut with all sorts of synths, drum beats and children’s choirs. I think Passion Pit’s enthusiasm and heart-on-sleeveness saves them…

  • Not Lethargic: Head On The Sofa

  • New Kimonos: “Soundtrack To Murder”

[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiMiq45_VfA”] Kimonos’ first single, “Almost Human,” seemed designed to be as different from Mukai Shutoku’s other contemporary project (Zazen Boys) as possible, replacing mathey chaos and abrasive vocals with laid-back electronics and Leo Imai’s smooth singing. The next song from the group’s upcoming debut album, “Soundtrack To Murder,” still sounds distinctly unique from any other…
