I’m pretty sure when I first encountered the music of Foodman, he was tagged primarily as a juke artist. He’s still done plenty of fine work in that scene, yet he’s been far from cemented in it. He’s branched out in all sorts of knotty ways – best captured on his albums released last year, strange little collections leaning towards the experimental. His newest song continues in that unfettered spirit. “Indo Koi No Uta” sounds like it should be played during the Japanese summer festival season, all traditional-sounding instruments and far-from-polished (being nice) singing. There are small details that make this even stranger…popping sounds, what sounds like various electronics going off somewhere, whatever the heck he’s saying (lyric sheet please).
