New Magical Mistakes: “Fashionable Thumb Pianos”

I’m still getting over my SXSW-induced hangover (both mentally and physically), so I’m happy Osaka’s Magical Mistakes released a new song that’s perfect for someone who involuntarily woke up at 4:30 this morning because of jet lag. Like a lot of Erik Luebs’ previous songs, “Fashionable Thumb Pianos” leans closer to the meditative rather than the noisy, the percussion here hiding out a bit in the mix. The big difference, though, is that this track doesn’t venture into the nature-inspired stuff he’s done over his last album and EP – “Fashionable Thumb Pianos” isn’t factory-cold, but it features more electronic whooshes and glassy touches than previous Magical Mistakes’ song that worked in bird and bug sounds. Listen below.
