Well, turns out this is a real indie-popping weekend after all: Osaka’s Post Modern Team, behind some of the absolute finest songs in Japan’s current indie-pop boom, have just released their self-titled debut album. Post Modern Team mostly collects all of the group’s previously released numbers – which means this comes loaded with “Never Let You Down,” “In The City,” “Heartbreak” and all the other tracks Post Modern Team have been releasing into the wild over the last few years. If you’ve been following them since they burst onto the stage (and they really did…their first song was “Never Let Me Down,” the best Japanese indie-pop song of this decade so far) you might know these…but here they are all together, which makes for a hell of a debut.     Elen Never SleepsとSuper VHSがスプリットEPを発表しました。White Surrender/Stuck On Youに収録された曲は、どちらも彼らの今までのスタイルとは異なった方向性となり、新しい可能性を追求した良作と言えるでしょう。Elen Never Sleepsによる”White Surrender”は、今までのドリーミーなサウンドより、少しくっきりとした曲です。きちんと輪郭のあるボーカルに時折囁くようなコーラスが混ざり、ギターとミニマルなビートの上に重ねられています。ボーカルはハイトーンではやや不安定なものの、ミニマルな曲に上手くマッチしています。Super VHSの”Stuck On You”は、彼の楽曲の中でもダントツにガレージ・ロック寄りと言えるでしょう。短いものの、バックグラウンドに面白いノイズが使われていて興味深いです。 EPには東京のトラックメーカー、Taquwamiによるリミックスも含まれています。不思議なことにWhite Surrenderのリミックスは、すごくドリーミーに作られているため、本人達の物より、過去のElen Never Sleepsスタイルに近く感じられます。遅くされたボーカルを除けばElenのオリジナルのようになるでしょう。Taquwamiのサイドプロジェクト、Occult YouとしてリミックスされたStuck On Youは、ガレージからガラリと変わり、Toro-Y-Moiのようなダンスチューンになっています。視聴、ダウンロード(無料)は以下より。 White Surrender / Stuck On You by Gay Vegan Vinyl Cassette

  • New Shortcake Collage Tape: “✈Empire≈Beach☼”

    Shortcake Collage TapeのVHSに直接録音したようなサウンドがとても好みです。新曲”✈Empire≈Beach☼” は、過去の名曲”Polaroid Full Of Kisses“にファズのようなフィルターをかけて潰したような作品です。”Empire Beach”は南国風のヴァイブを持っていて、ビーチリゾートのプロモーションで使われていそう。特に印象的な瞬間は、１分４０秒くらいの時にスムーズなジャズ・サックスが流れる時で、その穏やかな瞬間にいつまでも留まりたくなります。その後、アニメか映画のサンプルが呟き始め、曲の終わりとともに消えていき、最後に沖縄と囁きます。視聴は以下から。 あと違った意味で注目すべきは、一ヶ月くらい前にリリースされた”Meet Me In Your Dreams”で、これはとても笑わせてくれます。何が面白いかというと、この夏、YouTubeで動画を再生する際に頻繁に流れた、元SDN48の芹那ちゃんが出演していたコマーシャル、芹那 ザ ジレット ジェルジニーがサンプルネタになっているからです。何はともあれ、SCTが彼女の喋りを使って面白くユニークな作品を作ったのは素晴らしい事だと思います。
