I’m trying to finish (errrrrr, start) the official Make Believe Melodie’s “our favorite songs” feature, so in the meantime, enjoy this new song courtesy of Osaka’s Seiho. “Clipping Music” starts off quite sensual – some lovely, lounge-ready electronics playing over the sound of waves reaching the shore – but soon enters territory we are more used to from Seiho, albeit with a rapid stream of hand-clap noises this time around. Listen below.
cassettevision sampler by cassettevision
The first Music Alliance Pact of 2014 has arrived! To kick off the new year, over 30 blogs from around the world have selected a track to share with the rest of the globe. For Japan, Make Believe Melodies is highlighting the fidgety “Bishop’s Rising Sun” courtesy of Osaka’s Metome. Listen to it…and a lot…
Yasutaka Nakata has been super busy over the last year and a half producing music for Perfume and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. He hasn’t had much time to devote to his project Capsule, who haven’t released any new material since 2012’s so-so Stereo Worxxx. At long last, Nakata has put together a new song for his…
still sound isn’t shy about his influences – the name gives away his interest in Toro Y Moi before you even read the SoundCloud bio that calls Chaz Bundick his “bro.” It’s the project of a 17-year-old high-school student named James who lives in Naha on Okinawa – “well, like an hour north” he tells…
I have just gotten back to Tokyo after going to the Fuji Rock Festival for four days. It was a hectic (albeit fun!) event, that involved a lot of running between stages and working areas, many times in the middle of rain. It was not particularly easy to focus on music at this music festival,…
Meet Me In Your Dreams”で、これはとても笑わせてくれます。
I hate playing this card but…Pleasure is the only moniker this breezy electronic music project could have picked. The music of Pleasure isn’t growing excitement or joyous rush, it’s consistent and long-lasting pleasure. The ten-minute, er, pleasure cruise of “Sounded Sweet” bathes in the rays of Balearic sun, transforming house electro-squaks into relaxing little waves….
Our favorite songs of 2011 list comes out in less than a week, and one of the rules we instituted on it is that no one band can have more than two songs appear. The main reason for this addendum is so we can showcase a wide variety of Japanese music to people who might…
In which an artist who often felt like he was bouncing off of rubber walls makes a song that feels like quicksand. Osaka’s Metome spent the first half of 2015 exploring helium-pumped sounds, but in recent times has moved in a darker, more dense direction. “Triple X” isn’t far removed from something like “Feather,” as…
The Internet’s ability to make borders go poof and bring us all a little bit closer has been a great boon to music. I doubt I need to lay out the countless success stories…or the ones emerging every single day…to convince you the web has allowed countless artists seemingly doomed to nothingness to transcend and…
To some degree, Cokiyu is responsible for you reading this post on this blog right now. I’m not talking in the head-slappingly obvious way that you probably Googled that name and somehow ended up here, but rather the little truth that this blog might not even exist if it weren’t for college-aged me stumbling across…
Information on Yogen Hayama is scarce, but Simplicity offers up maybe everything one needs to know about the artist. It is, indeed, simple — five songs featuring nearly zero words, constructed from guitar and electronics. This sparse arsenal forces Hayama to get the most out of everything, and the songs on Simplicity deliver straightforward energy….
