Rima Kato: “I Write Letter”

Japanese label Flau – home to Cuushe, Cokiyu and many more fantastic artists – has welcomed another new domestic act aboard with Rima Kato. Her story sounds interesting – formerly part of a lo-fi outfit, Kato sorta vanished from the spotlight and recorded in private for a long time. She released a collection of those works in 2012, and now with Flau will release an album of new music early next year. “I Write Letter” is the first song from her forthcoming Faintly Lit, and is a simply, twinkly number full of longing. • New Chelmico: “Player”

Chelmico recently released their first full-length major label album Power, and it’s a solid shift towards bigger places for the duo. Most importantly, not much has changed now that they are on unBorde from recent EPs and a self-titled 2016 debut album. They still create upbeat genre-skipping exercises anchored in hip-hop, channeling Rip Slyme, Halcali…

If I have one huge glaring weakness when it comes to covering Japanese music and pop culture, it’s the fact I don’t watch much anime. I’d like to blame this on a lack of time, but that would be a lie — I managed to watch Paddington for the second time ever last night. I…

  • New mus.hiba: “Slow Snow”
