Tokyo outfit yahyel excel at twisted edges. It’s a time-tested strategy for plenty of groups — the music itself on new song “Alone,” a preview of their forthcoming debut album Flesh And Blood, is often times very pretty, featuring intricately put together electronics and pristine vocals. Yet it never feels comfortable, “Alone” frequently warping itself around and always shunning any settle form. Rather, elements wriggle around — voices become pitch-shifted and alien, or the tempo suddenly bursting into a jog midway through. It adds an unnerving energy, which makes “Alone” all the more compelling. Listen above.
