Punks in studded leather jacket have proudly claimed that it’s anti-fashion, (though they chose to be dressed in certain ways…) but here comes a band who’s dressed to impress, and even label their music as fashion; I think that’s pretty punk….
Despite the heavy leaning on goth imagery, PLASTICZOOMS music has always been distinctively dreamy. Regardless of how much noise they piled onto their music or how much eyeliner they dabbed on…which, hey, I see ya below video…they always, at their core, have sounded like The Cure and not the sonic equivalent of Robert Smith’s hair….
Tokyo’s PLASTICZOOMS merge shoegaze pop with industrial rock with results very reminiscent of the Jesus and Mary Chain, or contemporaries The Horrors and A Place To Bury Strangers. The band’s songs are rock numbers buried under layers of surging guitars, PLASTICZOOMS both capable of letting a song lurch in all sorts of directions (“The Sonnets”)…
