Two New Songs From The Insect Kids: “Henda, Henda, Henda” And “Full Color”

Indie-poppish outfit The Insect Kids realize that one song just isn’t enough in this buys, music-stuffed world of ours. So here they are dropping two new tracks – in the form of one big night-cruising video – for your listening pleasure. It has been a wild since Make Believe Melodies checked in with The Insect Kids, but it looks like little has changed from what drew us to them two years ago. On both songs, the group’s vocalist sounds far from perfect with his singing, but delivers his words in such a way that they still sound good in their own little way. The first track, “Henda, Henda, Henda,” is a bouncy one emphasizing stretched syllables, eeked on by some nice guitar playing. Yet the better song here is “Full Color,” which hits on the same emotional urgency some of The Insect Kids’ earlier work has. Part of that comes from a less hop-scotching drive but rather something a bit more relaxed, a guitar line and beat that meander a bit before erupting and hitting the sweet spot. And those vocals sound more pained…more desperate…here. Listen to both above.

    “Restraint”(制御)という単語をDe De Mouseと結びつける事などないと思っていました。彼の音楽は通常、ボーカルを切り刻み、その切れ端をスピード感のあるビートの上に乗せるようなスタイル。任天堂DSの音楽ゲームだったら最大級の難易度ですね。ドラムンベースの影響が薄い曲に限っての話ですが。新作Sky Was Darkからの曲、”Floats And Falls”は何と９分もあるのですが、今回はただ速いだけではありません。逆にスローなこの曲では、シンセが上手く曲を展開させて行きます。ボーカルのみにスピード感があります…というよりは、跳ねるようなスタイルがそう聴こえさせるのかもしれませんが。 “Floats And Falls”は５分が経過したその時点で既に完成された曲なのですが、それだけで終わらないのが今回の注目点。曲は不意に展開し、ビートが消えてボーカルとシンセのみのパートになります。その後も次々に新しい音色が加えられ、曲を終わりへと導きます。長くも飽きのこない、優れた工夫が施された作品だと感じます。De De Mouseの曲の中でもダントツで平和な、広々とした空気感を放っていて、彼の新しいスタイルを象徴した、新しい始まりを感じさせる曲になっています。ビデオは以下に。

    神戸のtofubeatsはトラックメイカーとして数々のリミックスやオリジナル作品を手がけてきました。今年2012年は今までとは少し違い、プロデューサーとして、数々の面白い挑戦をしています。ラッパーのオノマトペ大臣と共同で数々の強力なトラックを作り出したり、J-Popのシーンにも関わったりしていました。Yukiの曲のリミックスや、lyrical school(改名前はtengal6)への楽曲提供などがハイライトでしょう。でも、そのような活動をする中で、ついに傑作”Summer Dreams”をリリースしました。 今回リリースされた９曲は、一直線なビートとラップが印象的な、プロデューサー中心のトラックに、カット＆ペーストスタイルでボーカルのサンプルが使われています。今までの曲のように、ゆるい感じの物が多く、ホーンなどが使われている”poolside”のような、レイド・バックな曲が印象的です。In My Room” と”Synthesizer”も同じような雰囲気で、みんなで歌えるような曲なのに、決してそれだけでは終わらせないのが面白いところです。”In My Room”を例にあげるならば、ボーカルに一ひねり加えられていて、声が陰に隠れ、ダークな印象を生み出しています。”Synthesizer”ではボコーダーが使われ、ゆったりとした印象を強めています。 このようにtofubeatsはボーカルに多くの工夫を加えています。主に、ボーカルのサンプルを速めるという手法が使われています。”Killing Me Soft Cream” “Sweat N Dry” (AxeのCM曲） と “Work Shit”にもそのような手法が使われているのですが、Taquwamiの新しいEP、”Blurrywonder”と共通点があるように感じます。でも、tofubeatのほうがシンプルかつミニマルで、繰り返しが多いような印象です。(Work Shitを除く)。この３曲が新しいアルバムのなかでも特に傑作と言えるでしょう。購入はこちらから、視聴は以下から。 summer dreams by tofubeats
