Space has always played a central — if not obvious — role in the music Osaka’s Metome builds up. Even at his most frantic on Objet, it was the moments of air between the pitch-shifted samples and bass slaps that made everything connect all the harder. In recent months, Metome has been exploring that space even further, and “Rolling” is one of the most laid back tunes he’s put together yet. Moving forward on hand percussion and nearly transparent synth, it’s an efficient and enjoyable number, featuring a vocal sample that adds a bit of tension to the proceedings. It’s different for Metome, but the spirit of what he does best remains. Listen above.
