Osaka duo Caro Kissa have a new album out at the end of the month, and they’ve shared the first song from it, the bouncy “Imagination.” The horns and keyboard popping up here — and taking up more sonic space than before in their music — hint at them trying to jump into the city pop revival, but this feels far more lively than many of the set pieces trying to recall the 1980s. In particular, Caro Kissa let the song fall out of time, only to snap back to its skippy self soon after. It’s a nice bit of disruption, and one that makes the big light beam of a chorus all the brighter. Listen above.
