Azusa Suga, who already released one of the year’s best albums with his solo project Shortcake Collage Tape’s Spirited Summer, returns in time for the spring with a new EP titled Satellite Lovers from his indie-pop band For Tracy Hyde. In advance, he’s posted a new video for the song “Another Sunny Daze,” which appears on For Tracy Hyde’s sophomore outing. The actual sound of the song isn’t really a shock – as the video hints at, For Tracy Hyde seem to be taking cues from The Stone Roses – but the band’s use of English actually is. One of the things that separated them from the rest of the Japanese indie-pop scene was the use of Japanese on their first EP. “Another Sunny Daze” still sounds good – solid indie-pop – and Suga’s English singing is no weaker than his Japanese. Let’s see what Satellite Lovers contains – hopefully it strikes a linguistic balance.
