Ryuuta Takaki’s Stillness EP

The defining moment on Tokyo-based producer Ryuuta Takaki’s Stillness EP comes near the end, on the track “Phantasm.” The track opens in a relaxed and minimal matter, bordering on sounding like an electronic imitation of a peaceful meadow. Takaki’s sounds resemble the chirping of birds, and only a skittering beat really seems out of place. At the 54-second mark, though, the song blows up into a club banger, the beat swallowing up everything else and just taking control. Then…it vanishes too and the song turns nearly ambient. It’s the perfect snapshot of an EP that finds Takaki exploring the interplay between noisy and the serene – songs boast nature-evoking titles (“Under The Water,” “Chill Wind,” “Sleety Rain”) and oftentimes sound minimalist. Yet the beatmaker also punctures these songs with moments of noise, of something more club friendly. It’s a brief collection of songs, but a solid one. Listen here.

    ブロステップ、そしてもっと広い定義で言うとダブステップは、アメリカを含む多くの国でメインストリームになってきています。SPINやRolling Stoneといった雑誌では、このダンスミュージックにおける新たな流れについて多く取り上げています。また、The Electric Daisy Carnival のようなフェスも、膨大な動員数を誇っています。デッドマウスやスクリレックス、そしてベースネクター等、多くのダブステップアーティストがトップクラスのアクトになってきていて、好きでも嫌いでも、今最も注目すべきムーブメントだというのは認めざるを得ないでしょう。 日本でも最近になってシーンが出来てきたみたいです。Inorgの”Sleep”なんかがスクリレックスのようなブロステップの日本人的解釈と言えるのではないでしょうか。曲はロックファンならおなじみの、レディオヘッドの”Fitter Happier”からのサンプルで始まります。明確な芯がありつつも、いわゆる”ダブステップ”とは違い、ソフトな空気感を持っていて、ドロップが来ても柔らかいので、ジャンルの持つ偏見みたいな物を取っ払うような斬新サウンドになっています。 色々なエレクトロ・ジャンルで実験をする東京のMiiiは、最近のリリース、”Tokyo War Trap”で、ブロステップに挑戦しています。でも面白いひねりが加えられていて、例えばタイトル・トラックでは、ブロステップと同じくらいレゲエからの影響が感じられます。”Heat Off The Floor”は、Zombyとかがやりそうな、ダブステップ愛を避けるようなトラック。でも”Anti Virus Anti”なんかが特にそうなのですが、低音重視の流れを意識しているのは明確です。ダウンロードはこちらから、視聴は以下から。 Tokyo War Trap EP by Miii もし強烈なのが聴きたいのであれば、Fazerockの”Attempted Suicide”というEPを紹介します。顔面をぶん殴るような力強いドロップと、面と向かって怒鳴ってくるようなラップがフィーチャーされています。気になる方は是非お聴きあれ。 ATTEMPTED SUICIDE by fazerock

東京のアーティストRyuuta TakakiのStillness EPにおいて、その定義は後半のトラック”Phantasm”に込められています。始まりはミニマルでリラックスしていて、楽園をシンセサイザーで再現しているかのよう。その音は鳥のさえずりを彷彿とさせていて、速いビートとは妙な違和感が。しかし一分を経過したくらいからは激しいクラブ・サウンドに変貌します。と思ったら…曲は再びアンビエントに。Takakiが静けさと激しさの狭間を追求したEPの絶好のスナップショットと言えるでしょう。タイトルは自然を連想するものが多く（”Under The Water,” “Chill Wind,” “Sleety Rain”等）、ミニマルな構成が特徴的です。でもノイズを活かした、よりダンサブルなトラックなんかもあります。Ryuuta Takakiのスタイルを知るにはうってつけの８曲作品になっています。試聴はこちらから。
