New Tofubeats: “Time Thieves”

Kobe-based producer Tofubeats says he’s working on a new album, which is very good news for us. While he’s finishing the final touches on that full-length, he’s given the world a preview from it in the form of “Time Thieves,” a fast-paced track from one of the best music makers going in Japan right now. The song mixes skittering electronics, warped vocals and, true to Tofubeats’ style, hip-hop touches like the voices shouting “hey!” in the background at various parts. Listen below.

    Mass Of The Fermenting Dregsは９月１日、バンドのホームページにて解散を発表しました。リードシンガーの宮本菜津子によって発表され、彼女のこれからのソロ活動についても言及されています。本文にはMass Of The Fermenting Dregsの未発表曲、“たんたんたん”がプレゼントとして貼り付けてあり、こちらからダウンロード可能です。 “たんたんたん”は、ここ数年のバンドのなかでも良質な音楽を生み出してきたFermenting Dregsらしい結論になっているな、と感じます。あまり勢いのある曲ではないものの、ゆったりとしたメローなテンポは、バンドの今までの曲を思い出させてくれます。色々脳裏に浮かびますが、特に2010年の作品、ゼロコンマ、色とりどりの世界は、その名の通り色あせない名盤です。最後の曲で宮本は声を絞り出すように歌い、攻撃的なギターと絡み合うのですが、決してやりすぎのないように、今までの通り上手く調節されています。

    いわゆる”レイブ”という所には行った事がないので、もし誤解を招くような発言があったら申し訳ないです。イメージしているのは、日常から解き放たれ、そのトランス状態を楽しむ為のイベント。大阪のSeihoの新曲、”I Feel Rave”も、そのイメージに近いです。軽快なビートの上で、様々なトーンを行き来する複雑に調律されたボーカルが、繰り返し”I feel you”と歌い、リスナーを幻想の世界へと呼び込みます。この曲はSeihoを次のリリースへと繋げる堅固なステップと言えるでしょう。 レイブと聞いて他に思い浮かぶのは…偏見かもしれませんが、ドラッグです。Seihoは幻覚を思わせるような工夫を曲に入れていて、後半の水滴が落ちるような音の後、ボーカルは更にめちゃくちゃになっていきます。終盤にこういった工夫もいれる事で、曲のユニークさが際立っています。視聴は以下から。
