Stare at SoundCloud or Bandcamp long enough and everything starts blurring together…a never-ending line of anime avatars sitting next to frantic electro songs*. How to stand out? Well, having a distinctive voice like Tomodati sure can help. Mutsuo Nakamura’s project features a lot of familiar touches for anyone who follows a lot of artists who think the word “future” exists as an adjective only — vocal samples and slappy bass hits over a bouncy beat. But Tomodati sings over that blend, and dude is certainly not a trained singer…and that’s probably for the best. His rough (but not off-putting) voice adds a frantic charm to “Feedback,” and makes it jump out. Listen above.
