Osaka Stop: Paperkraft And Mountain

For reasons that will become clear next Monday (or if you follow the Twitter), I’ve been in Osaka for the last two days. Fittingly, why not focus on two Osaka artists tonight? First up is producer Paperkraft, a young electronic track maker who will be joining Seiho at an event this weekend in Tokyo, and the bouncy clap-happy “Translucent.” It’s a wavy party-starter, energetic but with a mysterious side. Listen above.

Elsewhere, coming off a compilation called Wells via Monotone Label, is producer Mountain’s joyful “Abilities,” a squiggly number made all the more upbeat by some horn blurts (but made a bit unnerving by a vocal sample about hands). Listen below.

    New Sakanaction: “Yoru No Odoriko”

Sakanaction, who made this site’s second favorite album of 2011, have a new single and video (above) out now called “Yoru No Odoriko.” The song finds the group continuing to play around with the dance-friendly-verse-explosive-chorus structure they’ve been exploring for a while now, although the addition of female backing vocals is a great sounding touch….

  • Strange Fruit: Peach

So, based on one of the randomly chosen images appearing in the upper left-hand corner of Osaka band Peach’s website the group at some point played their hometown’s Apple Store. This baffles me because their music seems very un-Apple (har har, a fruit joke!) like. Every iPod ad of the last decade used a cutesy…

  • Worthy Of Hype Beasts: UKR Featuring MCpero “Edelweiss”

Omake Club seems poised for a big first half of the year, including a new album from Zombie-Chang in the spring. First, though, comes an album from producer UKR (aka Ukai Ryota), highlighted by “Edelweiss,” a song featuring the ever-versatile MCpero. The music itself is a skippy concoction, UKR needling guitar melodies alongside synths and…

  • Not Lethargic: Head On The Sofa
