Riddim Saunter To Call It Quits

Rock group Riddim Saunter announced on their website they will be calling it quits. They posted a hand-written note to their official site earlier today announcing their break up. The band will hold a farewell party on Saturday, September 3 at Nakano Sun Plaza.

The group, who formed during their high-school years, released their debut album Current in 2005. The five-piece outfit blended a wide range of styles together, making songs where rock, hip-hop and orchestral elements coexisted. The songs “Fresh” and “MUISC BY,” from that first record, captures the band’s all-over-the-place goodness.

Subsequent releases explored similar areas, sometimes emphasizing hip-hop beat as in “Dear Joyce” below, or getting a small orchestra to record with them as in “Sweet & Still.”

Riddim Saunter served as the openers for The Go! Team’s first Japanese tour, and the band also played the 2008 Fuji Rock Festival. Last year, they collaborated with Hideki Kaji on an album and played with him at this year’s Fuji Rock Festival.

Let your body dance, and let your brain dance more,” と説明されるこの三曲入りEPからは、名古屋のHouse Of Tapesとも共通点を感じます。

Turns out Puni Puni Denki’s recent turn to more relaxed, near-bossa-nova sounds wasn’t just a one-off thing. Wonder Underground follows up the cafe-adjacent sweetness of “Life Is Super Dope” with three more songs begging to soundtrack your next chill-out session. Wonder Underground isn’t background music or even smooth enough to soundtrack your next homework marathon….

Further revelations – it’s a good and minimalist album, nothing but pretty singing and guitars save for the rare piano appearance. It’s a nice little album but…

  • New Boys Age: Else

Boys Age’s proper debut album STILL hasn’t arrived in stores (that’s next week), yet the duo just keep on pumping out music. It remains their most intriguing aspect and the one that makes them so very hard to really sum up (though when they put out a best-of comp, it is vital). Well, that and…
