Slow Delight: Uma’s Roam Featuring Remixes From Magical Mistakes And Madegg

Osaka-based label Perfect Touch has a new release out now, fronted by Berlin duo Uma and their beautiful-quicksand tune “Roam.” The original is a slow waltz of a number, highlighted by vocal repetitions amongst the ever shifting noises whirring around it. The power of that singing being milked for all it is worth is picked up by one of the main minds behind Perfect Touch, Magical Mistakes, on his remix of “Roam,” which melts the vocals down into shapeless form (unlike the original, which has intelligible words) and builds from there. Rounding out the EP is Kyoto’s Madegg, who doesn’t focus on the voices as much and rather makes the most of the music…and some very Madegg-ish percussion choices late in the song. TalkingCity1994’s I Can Feel Your Soul was a constantly chugging affair. That’s not to imply it was 20 minutes of non-stop aggression, but even the lighter moments, moving forward on old-arcade-machine synths, moved with intent. The band’s latest track, “My Jenifer,” isn’t an about-face into ambient music, but it finds TalkingCity1994 moving a lot slower…

  • New mus.hiba: “Slow Snow”

Dear Ear Records is a new label from Kyoto, one that has just appeared this past month. Which makes sense because – at the moment it feels like a fledgling imprint. Beyond being from Kyoto, they haven’t had time to shape out an identity. They have put together a lovely compilation, though, and even if…

  • New MPEG-7: Rain Grain

Space is a critical aspect of producer MPEG-7’s latest song, “Rain Grain.” Not silence, as sound is present at all points of the song, but MPEG-7 lets skittery beats and keyboard lines hang out exposed early on, slowly letting more elements creep in to the fidgety electronic number. Eventually, the song bursts open, thumping ahead…
