New Albums Update: Sebastian X, Nuxx Prep New Stuff

Above, you can watch the trailer for shouty indie-pop group Sebastian X’s forthcoming album Futures. It’s their first full-length album after two stellar mini-albums. You can hear a small selection of the new material in the above video, and also see Sebastian X generally act like a bunch of goofballs. Futures hits shelves on October 5.

More immediate, though, is the sophomore album from Osaka tech-rock trio Nuxx. Titled Lettre Mois, the information about this LP completely blindsided us here at Make Believe Melodies, a few Tweets courtesy the official Nuxx page announcing its existence and a release date of September 7 or next week. For a while, we were in total darkness about what tracks would be on this thing until some clever YouTube searching (“nuxx lettre mois” go me) led to the below teaser trailer, featuring samples of every song on the album. Pretty pumped for this one, listen below.

    コンピレーション・アルバムはレーベルのカラーを提示するのに打ってつけな手段と言えるでしょう。サポートするアーティストからレーベルの特色が分かりやすいので。Dead Funny Recordsは大阪のThe Paellas、埼玉のFancy Booksや東京のJappers等、素晴らしいアーティストたちを輩出しているわけなのですが、今回のコンピに関してはレーベル自身のアイデンティティもちゃんと表現しています。この５０分程のコンピレーションには、ギターを多用するロック・バンドが日本中から集められていて、少し激しめのPOP-OFFICEの”End Of Summer”から、それよりは甘めのOld Lacy Bedの”Little Girl”とHomecomingsの”Special Today”等、若干バラエティーがあるものの、明確な基準があります。Boyishは両者のコンピに参加しているのですが、アルバム全体を考えるとAno(t)raksとも違った音楽性になっていますよ。 Dead Funnyのハイライトの１つがThe Paellasなのは非常に納得しています。この大阪のグループは数年前から自分たちに最も適したスタイルを追求していて、聴く度に都会の朝（４時くらいかな？）を連想させてくれます。”Fall Even Further”ではボーカルの良さが際立ち、彼らの曲の中でも特に優れた作品だと言えるでしょう。コンピ１曲目のアーティストtalkはもっと注目されるべきだと思います。”In Refrain Rain”の跳ねるようなインディ・ポップはベルやコーラス等で味付けされ、淡く爽やかで、とても優しく心地の良い曲風です。福岡のHearsaysによる”The Blind”も非常に良く、日曜日の朝に聴きたくなるポップになっています。 Fancy Booksの”Nephogram”はこのDead Funnyコンピの中でも異端な存在感を放っています。ギターを使わずに、ボーカルと打ち込みのレイヤーで、幻想的で浮遊感のある世界を表現しています。どのレーベルにもこのような異なるテイストを持ち、新しい方向性を開拓してくれるアーティストが必要なんではないでしょうか。購入はこちらから、試聴は以下から。
