New Daoko: “Moshimo Bokura Ga Game No Shuyaku De”

I’m in Singapore for the next three days! I wasn’t going to post anything, but my phone is charging and this Daoko song is alright so…why not? I’m going to break one of my self-imposed rules and admit this is one where the video is way better than the song — though, really, that is mainly because anything with Earthbound references is a winner for me. The music is solid, though lacking the pop-ready immediacy of the still-excellent “Bang!,” this one bordering a little too close to 8-bit novelty for comfort. But it still manages to highlight all the aspects of Daoko that make her an ideal candidate for J-Pop crossover success — ability to carry an understated hook, and break into rap quickly.     文化の中心は東京だと思われがちですが、関西も同様に栄えています。それでも大阪や京都の印象が強いですよね。ここ２年くらいその２つの場所ではダンス・ミュージックが盛り上がっていましたし。かつての首都であり、大仏や鹿が有名な奈良はどうでしょうか？良いアーティストを多数輩出しているものの、あまりダンス・ミュージックのイメージはありませんね。でもそんな奈良からも最近Sakasaというアーティストが出てきて、Coin Bender EPでは前向きなビートやノイズを奏でています。”Let your body dance, and let your brain dance more,” と説明されるこの三曲入りEPからは、名古屋のHouse Of Tapesとも共通点を感じます。どちらもメンタルとフィジカル両方に響くので。一曲目のタイトル・トラックなんかは特にそうで、歯医者のドリルみたいな身震いしそうな激しいノイズでビートが構築されています。”Pond”では逆に柔らかな印象。華やかなシンセのレイヤーが乗っているビートがこちらも徐々に重なっていきます。体を動かすにも世界観にも浸るにも適した美しい曲です。

    サカナクションは１月２３日発売のニューシングル、”ミュージック”にて、彼らの原点を少し振り返っています。ボーカリスト山口一郎のバースでの声の伸ばし方はまるでシングル”エンドレス”のようで、曲の後半で感情がぐっと込み上げてくる感じは”モノクロトウキョー”の世界観。でもアイディアが尽きたとかそういう意味ではなく、彼らが本来持っていたコアな部分を大事にしつつ、新しい事にチャレンジしています。構成も美しく、最初は山口のボーカルをセンターに配置した寂しい雰囲気で始まり、徐々にバンドがスペースを埋め、コーラスで感情は頂点に。度々言いますが、サカナクションが日本のメインストリームで飛躍していく姿を観れて本当に光栄です。試聴はこちらから。
