New Secret Space: Anime EP

Anime certainly plays a role in Anime, the latest EP from fledgling producer Secret Space, but it isn’t in any particularly bubbly way that seems trendy at the moment. This is unsettling territory, where sampled dialogue from cartoons plays out behind synths howling away or drum machines given plenty of space to strike, making the whole track come off like a misty abyss. Opening track “Kimi O” sucks itself in deeper, coming off like it could vanish inward at any second – the cutesy anime chat playing within eventually ripples, and what should be stereotypically adorable turns strange. Here’s Secret Space turning expectations into something strange yet captivating. Listen below, or get it here.

  • New mus.hiba: “Slow Snow”

Up to now, Tokyo’s Elen Never Sleeps (sometimes written in all-caps) been making music almost too easily described as “dreamy,” intimate pop covered in a haze that makes the whole track sound like it could vanish into the air any second.
