Tricot have a new EP out at the end of the month, and they’ve shared the first taste of it with “Setsuyakuka,” a shifty number that starts as a dash before turning more inward…and then zooms off again to the finish. It’s a formula they’ve stuck to throughout their career, but one they still excel at — despite the “math rock” tag that will follow them forever (I didn’t help), Tricot’s real strength lies in how unexpected every new twist is, and how they are able to make them sound deeply emotional rather than homework. So it goes here, and I’m guessing on the Kabuki EP. Can’t wait. Listen above.
