Checking In: Himuro Yoshiteru’s Fushigi Man EP

Himuro Yoshiteru has been making electronic music since the ’90s, and he’s been putting out his jazz-influenced works at a good clip over the last decade and a half. He’s not slowing down yet — his new Fushigi Man EP comes out via King Deluxe, and features four crackling numbers that are a treat for those craving texture in sound. The title track crunches and fizzes, with everything together just right to create a playful bounce. “Bootprint,” with its prominent stand-up bass, is more overtly inspired by jazz, but Yoshiteru adds a mechanical gloom to the proceedings. And he gets wild on the finale, “Takhos,” featuring a drum ‘n’ bass rush. Get it here, or listen below.
