Neon Cloud Remixes Blue Foundation’s “Describe,” We Are Mostly Pumped Neon Cloud Are Back

Neon Cloud Neon Cloud Neon Cloud Neon Cloud! Sorry for the excitement, but this is the first new output from the mysterious Tokyo project since 2011’s excellent (and only getting better with time) Knit EP. This isn’t quite an original work, but what Neon Cloud does to Brooklyn outfit Blue Foundation’s (really good on its own!) “Describe” takes it into very familiar territory for the Flau artist. The rhythm is kept intact, but Neon Cloud’s remix integrates new background elements that take this into a more unsettling place, such as a more abrupt beat and various synth swirls. Yet this version of “Describe” really takes off when Neon Cloud reverses Blue Foundation’s vocals and then the fragile voice of the remixer herself comes out of the shadows into the song. From there, this becomes a Neon Cloud song that just happens to have a clearer, male voice at the forefront, while Cloud’s voice darts around in the background.     関西のロックバンド、NOKIES!がデビューフルアルバム、”Between The Blinks”をFlake Recordsとタワーレコードからリリースしました。Los Campesinos!のようなインディーポップが特徴的な彼等でしたが、今作品では良い意味で幅広い層から好かれそうな雰囲気。タワーレコードからのリリースも違和感なく、これからバンドはどんどんメインストリームなロックバンドとして成長していきそうですが、ボーカルのクメユウスケはそのような方向性とは違ったものをYouth Genius(Youth LagoonとPerfume Geniusの融合みたいな感じかな？）として表現しています。 Soundcloudには、”All of the songs is inspired by peculiar atomosphere created by the streets and youth of Kyoto city,”(京都の若者やストリートが持つ独特な空気感が楽曲に影響を与えている。)と書かれているのですが、その通り京都の若者達は個性的なスタイルを表現していて、Youth Lagoonは少しばかりのエレクトロ要素を持つインディーポップと、跳ねるようなファンクを融合していて、哀愁とワイルドさのバランスを上手く保っています。”Explains”は直球勝負なインディーポップで、センターに配置されたキーボードがとても良い存在感。”Behind You”と”Stay Above The Clouds”は多くの打ち込みが使われていて、今年に国内でリリースされたインディーポップの中でも特に目立っています。そして”We Keep Kissing”はクラブ的アノラックサウンドが、The Brixton Academyが本気を出してダンサブルな楽曲を作ったかのような印象。Youth Geniusみたいなプロジェクトがあることで、NOKIES!の方向性もどんどん進化していきそうですね。

  • Nice Find: Cassettevision Sampler

    Bandcampから無料でダウンロードできるCassettevision Samplerは、決して音楽ブログから注目を浴びるべく作られた、レーベルのデビュー作品ではありません。レーベルは２０００年からあり、「不思議な魅力や毒、ひっかかるなにかしらがある音楽を紹介。」というコンセプトで、２００３年以降、数々のアルバムをリリースしています。このサンプラーはCassettevisionの歴史のような物で、過去にリリースした１３曲が収録されています。 Cassettevision Samplerの大半はミニマルなエレクトロニカで、冷ややかな実験性はありつつも、暖かくポップな印象が強いです。２つの作品を同レーベルからリリースしているLemの、”Story Of Surf For Young People”で聴けるボサノバ調のサウンドからは、とても温もりが感じられます。他のトラックはというと、engの作品は、跳ねるようなチャイムのような音やノイズ等、一見形のないように思えるサウンドを、ポップソングとして見事に再構築しています。Kiwako Kanedaの曲は、インディーポップやフォークにエレクトロニカが足されたような作品。Hot Fudge Sundaeの”New Walk”はストレートにポップ、Apartmenの”Hand Me Down”は直球ガレージロックなのですが、ちょっとしたクセや工夫が足されていて、レーベルのカラーを象徴しています。Cassettevision Samplerはミニマルなエレクトロニカが多く、レーベルのイメージを知るにはもってこいの作品と言えるでしょう。 cassettevision sampler by cassettevision

Neon Cloud Neon Cloud Neon Cloud Neon Cloud！取り乱してすいません…でも、ミステリアスかつ素晴らしい（どんどん良くなっています）東京のプロジェクト、Neon Cloudが、2011年のKnit EP以降ついにまた作品をドロップしました。厳密に言うとオリジナル作品ではないのですが、Neon CloudがブルックリンのBlue Foundationの”Describe”（原曲も素晴らしいですよ！）にFlauアーティスト特有のテイストを足しています。このリミックスではリズムには手が加えられていないものの、不意なビートであったり、多数のシンセであったり、加えられた音が原曲の持つ不穏さを際立てるだけでなく、更にその世界感を追求しています。この“Describe”のクライマックスはNeon CloudがBlue Foundationのヴォーカルを逆再生し、リミクサー自身のボーカルが陰から現れる所。男性ヴォーカルがメインなものの、Cloudの繊細な女性ヴォーカルもバックグラウンドに花を添えます。今年はNeon Cloudが新作をリリースするように皆で祈りましょう！試聴は以下から。
