Memory Girls To Release “Our Freedom, Our Darkness” On England’s Dufflecoat Records

インディー・ポップ・アーティストMemory Girlsによる”Our Freedom, Our Darkness”については、公開された２０１０年の６月に紹介させて頂きましたね。２年ほど経った今、なんとその曲がダブリンのThe Choir Invisibleとのスプリットとして、Dufflecoat Recordsからのリリースが決まったようです。なんで見つけるのにそんなに時間がかかったのかは分かりませんし、いつリリースされるのかも確かでないのですが、嬉しいニュースですよね。Dufflecoatのバージョンは確かに丁寧にプロデュースされているのですが、当時聴いた時と同じ気分にさせてくれます。「晴れた日にツリーハウスで聴くのに最適な、童心に戻らせてくれるインディー・ポップ」と紹介させて頂きましたね。

    Shortcake Collage TapeのVHSに直接録音したようなサウンドがとても好みです。新曲”✈Empire≈Beach☼” は、過去の名曲”Polaroid Full Of Kisses“にファズのようなフィルターをかけて潰したような作品です。”Empire Beach”は南国風のヴァイブを持っていて、ビーチリゾートのプロモーションで使われていそう。特に印象的な瞬間は、１分４０秒くらいの時にスムーズなジャズ・サックスが流れる時で、その穏やかな瞬間にいつまでも留まりたくなります。その後、アニメか映画のサンプルが呟き始め、曲の終わりとともに消えていき、最後に沖縄と囁きます。視聴は以下から。 あと違った意味で注目すべきは、一ヶ月くらい前にリリースされた”Meet Me In Your Dreams”で、これはとても笑わせてくれます。何が面白いかというと、この夏、YouTubeで動画を再生する際に頻繁に流れた、元SDN48の芹那ちゃんが出演していたコマーシャル、芹那 ザ ジレット ジェルジニーがサンプルネタになっているからです。何はともあれ、SCTが彼女の喋りを使って面白くユニークな作品を作ったのは素晴らしい事だと思います。

    INNITやIdleMoments等のイベントが象徴しているように、大阪のビート・シーンは非常に大盛況。Magical Mistakesの渦巻くようなサウンドや、Seihoの実験的なビートは、とてもユニークなのと同時にグルーブ感もあります。でも、”Alder”はそのような曲がブラックホールに吸い込まれたかのような印象。IdleMomentsをオーガナイズするEadonmmによるこのトラックは、極めてテンポを抑えた、スローな楽曲。ゆったりと始まり、アンビエントな空気感を堪能しているその時に、ピークを迎えます。シンセサイザーによる壁のようなレイヤーが左右にパンし、異なるテンポのボーカルが、それぞれ違うピッチで奇妙なデュエットを奏でます。ダンスフロアには不向きかもしれませんが、それ以上に、独特な音世界を堪能する事が可能。試聴は以下から。

    Slowは元々MOSCOW CLUBのC８６コンピレーションに収録されていた楽曲でしたが＜＞今回の再編集を経て（なのでタイトルに新しいを表すNUEとついています）オリジナルよりもクリアーになっています。氷山を彷彿とさせる様な壮大な冷たい空気感のギターとドラムスは彼の歌う歌詞”but you slow down/slow down/slow down,” と重なってゆっくりと流れていきます。オリジナルバージョンも良曲でしたがこのバージョンによってさらに洗練されたと言えると思います。

Indie-pop outfit Memory Girls originally posted “Our Freedom, Our Darkness” back in June 2010 – we wrote about it then (remember that design?). More than two years later, that lovely little song will be released on English imprint Dufflecoat Records, as a split with Dublin band The Choir Invisible. Not sure when the actual record comes out…or why it took so long for someone to notice the song…but exciting news nonetheless. The Dufflecoat version (listen below) sounds better produced than the song I remember from 2010, but still retains the elements that prompted me to write that the song was the “stuff of childhood naivety, skippy indie-pop perfect for soundtracking the construction of a treehouse on a clear day” a long time ago. Treehouses, really? Geez I hope I’m doing better at this now.
