Memory Girls To Release “Our Freedom, Our Darkness” On England’s Dufflecoat Records

インディー・ポップ・アーティストMemory Girlsによる”Our Freedom, Our Darkness”については、公開された２０１０年の６月に紹介させて頂きましたね。２年ほど経った今、なんとその曲がダブリンのThe Choir Invisibleとのスプリットとして、Dufflecoat Recordsからのリリースが決まったようです。なんで見つけるのにそんなに時間がかかったのかは分かりませんし、いつリリースされるのかも確かでないのですが、嬉しいニュースですよね。Dufflecoatのバージョンは確かに丁寧にプロデュースされているのですが、当時聴いた時と同じ気分にさせてくれます。「晴れた日にツリーハウスで聴くのに最適な、童心に戻らせてくれるインディー・ポップ」と紹介させて頂きましたね。

    東京のプロデューサーTaquwamiは、ネットのシーンに属している、と先月話してくれました。「僕自身は東京、というか特定の地域のシーンとは繋がってないんじゃないでしょうか。どちらかと言うと地域関係なくインターネット上でって感じじゃないかなーと。なんていうかChillwaveよりはBeat重視でWitch House/Trap/Hiphop全部突っ込んだみたいななんともいえないくくりのelectronic musicがインターネットであるじゃないですか。」Taquwamiが今までコラボレートしてきたアーティスト達も、彼同様の環境で音楽を配信しています。たとえ違う国に住んでいても、そこで交流し、繋がれるのが最高の利点。最近ではヴァージニア州を拠点としているRuddypと共同で”Hold”をリリースしています。Blurrywonderで聴けるようなドラムパターンやボーカルが使われているものの、”Hold” はそのEPよりも極めてゆったりとしたペースで進みます。以前もそのようなテンポの曲はありましたが、Ruddypのテイストが加わる事により、Taquwamiの楽曲とはまた違った面白さが引き出されています。視聴は以下から。

  • New Picnicwomen And Ahmad Jackson Jr.: Stylus EP

    “Pppppppp-picnicwomen-women-women-women”という強烈なタグの曲。Picnicwomenがジュークにチャレンジし、今年のお気に入りの一つになりました。このプロジェクトの最新EP、Stylusには、 “Ripstick Girl”という曲意外に、同じKool Switch Worksのアーティスト、Ahmad Jackson Jr.の曲も含まれています。”Ripstick Girl”はゆったりとしたギターで始まり、攻撃的なマシンガンのようなビートに、ググっても探すのが不可能に近いマニアックなサンプルが乗っています。その後、曲はテンポが速まり、他の要素が入ってきたりして、複雑になっていきます。Ahmad Jackson Jr.の”Done For You”も面白く、ホーンがや、泡がはじけるような音がふんだんに使われ、ミックスの奥には、J.     宅録ミュージシャンのトクマルシューゴが、2010年の作品”Port Entropy”に続くシングル、”Decorate”をリリースしました。今までの楽しいおもちゃ箱のような曲以上を望んでいる人にとっては期待はずれかもしれませんね。今回も、遊び心に満ちた曲に仕上がっています。ベル、木管楽器とアコースティックギターが曲の多くを占め、目覚まし時計のような茶目っ気のある音も面白いです。彼のスタイルは全く損なわれていないです。視聴は上から。シングルを購入すれば、トクマルシューゴによる、かつてMTVで大ヒットしたバグルスの、”ラジオ・スターの悲劇”のカバーも聴けます。シングルカットがどうなっているかは知りませんが、ライブバージョンは以下から視聴できます。

Memory Girls To Release “Our Freedom, Our Darkness” On England’s Dufflecoat Records

Indie-pop outfit Memory Girls originally posted “Our Freedom, Our Darkness” back in June 2010 – we wrote about it then (remember that design?). More than two years later, that lovely little song will be released on English imprint Dufflecoat Records, as a split with Dublin band The Choir Invisible. Not sure when the actual record comes out…or why it took so long for someone to notice the song…but exciting news nonetheless. The Dufflecoat version (listen below) sounds better produced than the song I remember from 2010, but still retains the elements that prompted me to write that the song was the “stuff of childhood naivety, skippy indie-pop perfect for soundtracking the construction of a treehouse on a clear day” a long time ago. Treehouses, really? Geez I hope I’m doing better at this now.
