Hiroshima footwork creator CRZKNY caught our attention in 2012 by releasing two EPs of music with a political bent – the young producer created unsettling, sample-heavy tracks acting as anti-nuclear-power music. Yet CRZKNY isn’t purely a political activist disguised as a footwork maker – he has also released EPs of songs just meant to get people moving. His latest collection of songs, Seventeen Lost Souls, moves away from the nuclear finger pointing of his earlier 2012 output in favor of seventeen untitled tracks of quick-moving music featuring samples from older songs and movies. Seventeen Lost Souls is a relatively straightforward affair with plenty of great moments – like how CRZKNY mutates a sample of Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” into a juke number on “#5,” or how he splices up dialogue from what sounds like a Japanese TV show on “#15.” CRZKNY impresses without immediately recognizable samples as well, as with the intimidating horn blasts on “#10.” Get it here.

UPDATE: Well, turns out Seventeen Lost Souls ISN’T online any longer. Bummer. But CRZKNY did upload a new song to celebrate 2013 called “Tornado Alley” which would have fit in lovely on that album. Listen to it…and download it…here.
